With summer officially over and fall is here, we move indoors and prepare for the upcoming holiday season. For those of us in Canada it is just around the corner, with Thanksgiving in early October there is not much time to prepare.
Simple is best, which is why wrought iron works so well. Decorative wrought iron holiday accents are functional and versatile enough to blend with any decor style or color scheme. Timeless pieces that are used year-round are worth their weight in gold.
Pine Accent Tables
There is enough to do without worrying about decorating with the changing holidays, here are a few ideas that may help lessen the stress.
A wrought iron wreath hanger for the entry door or any inside door left year-round allows for the holidays and changing seasons by switching wreaths or welcoming signs that hang on the wreath hanger. In the fall hang a wreath with autumn leaves, come Halloween add a hanging silhouette of a pumpkin, witch or haunted house and at Christmas, replace the autumn wreath with a winter wreath.
Place a mitten dryer in the foyer; this is where the little ones and the grown up kids can hang their wet mittens, scarves and boots to dry before coming any further into the house. Once the puddle jumping and snow season is over, no need to put the mitten dryer away, hang silhouettes from it and you now have an art piece.
It is not necessary to clutter your living room with holiday accents, if this is where you put your tree, the colors from the lights and ornaments along with the gifts add a lot to the room. Decorate the fireplace mantel with a candle pillar holder. Pillar candles come in various sizes, colors and scents. This allows you to leave the pillar candle holder in place all year, only having to change the candles to whatever color or scent you choose and when the mood strikes. Fall leaves, a string of lights, holy or cedar bows will give it that extra little touch and don't forget the mantel hooks to hang the stockings.
Always use caution with candles, never leave them burning unattended, especially when surrounded with leaves or greenery.
One last area is the dining room, where that wonderful Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner is served. Elegant yet simple, use a linen table-cloth, bring out Grandma's good china and your best silverware, and keep the centrepiece low to the table, nothing worse than trying to see over the centrepiece when trying to talk to the person at the opposite end of the table. Depending on the size of your table start with one or two simple candle holders, add water and use floating candles or float flower tops, around these or between the two candle holders place a few autumn leaves, pine cones or holly sprigs.
Keeping it simple, and using just a few holiday accents will lessen the stress of decorating and give you more time to spend with family and friends, which after all is what it's really all about.
